Why you shouldn’t use AI to write your website content

Yes, AI can write website content.
And no, that does not mean you should use it for your business website.
If you’ve ever landed on a site and thought:
“This just sounds like a bunch of bullshits?”
Congrats.
You’ve probably just read AI-written content.
(Or really bad human-written content. But that’s a topic for another day.)
Here’s why using AI to write your website content is a mistake, especially if you want customers to trust you, buy from you, or even remember you.
1. AI writes words, not intent
AI is very good at forming sentences.
What it’s bad at?
- Understanding your customers’ fears
- Knowing what makes people hesitate
- Knowing why someone would choose you over a competitor
- Knowing your real business story
AI doesn’t understand intent.
It predicts the next word. That’s it.
Kind of like using the keyboard suggestions on your phone to write an essay.
Good website content on the other hand is written with purpose, using words to guide, persuade, and convert.
AI doesn’t sell.
Humans do.
2. AI content sounds generic (because it is)
AI content usually looks like this:
“We provide high-quality services tailored to your needs.”
Sounds familiar?
That’s because everyone using AI gets the same crap.
No personality.
No edge.
No differentiation.
If your website sounds like every other website in your industry, you really need to reflect who's actually running the business.
Customers don’t remember “high-quality services.”
They remember clarity, confidence, and relevance.
3. AI doesn’t know your local market
This is especially important for local businesses.
AI doesn’t know:
- How Malaysians talk
- Local buying behaviour
- Cultural context
- Local slang or expectations
- Industry-specific pain points
That’s why AI-written content often feels “off”.
I'm not saying they're wrong, but just "not the same".
A good website speaks your customers’ language. AI speaks the internet’s language.
4. AI content hurts trust (even if people can’t explain why)
Customers may not say:
“This website is AI-written.”
But they’ll feel it.
And when something feels off:
- They loses trust
- Hesitation increases
- Conversions fall
People buy from businesses they feel understand them.
AI doesn’t understand anyone. It imitates.
5. Google is getting smarter about AI content
Let’s talk SEO.
Google doesn’t hate AI. But it does hate low-value, unoriginal content.
Most businesses using AI:
- Copy-paste content
- Don’t add insight
- Don’t add experience
- Don’t add originality
What about the result?
❌ Poor rankings
❌ Low engagement
❌ High bounce rates
❌ Content that never gets indexed properly
AI content without human editing is lazy SEO. And lazy SEO doesn’t rank.
6. The biggest problem: AI removes accountability
When content is written by a human:
- Someone owns the message
- Someone stands behind the words
- Someone understands the consequences
When content is written by AI:
- No responsibility
- No strategy
- No accountability
Your website is your business’s voice.
Outsourcing that entirely to a robot just doesn't make sense.
7. The right way to use AI (yes, there is one)
AI is not useless.
It’s powerful when used correctly.
✅ Brainstorming ideas
✅ Structuring content
✅ Improving grammar
✅ Speeding up drafts
❌ Replacing strategy
❌ Replacing copywriting
❌ Replacing business thinking
AI should assist humans. Not replace them.
Final thoughts
AI can write content.
But it can’t:
- Represent your brand
- Sell your services
- Build trust
- Understand your customers
- Grow your business
Your website content is too important to leave to a machine.
